Trafford looking to become first-choice club keeper to boost England hopes

James Trafford accepts he has to be the first-choice goalkeeper at club level if he wants to be Englands number one.

Trafford is one of three keepers in Thomas Tuchels World Cup squad, working with Dean Henderson as Jordan Pickfords understudy.

The 23-year-old had a difficult season with Manchester City, signing to be their number one last summer only to see the club bring in Gianluigi Donnarumma, who became Pep Guardiolas first choice.

Trafford, who has been linked with a move away from the Etihad this summer, said: I dont think there has been a goalie start for any of the top nations that isnt a number one at the club, so going off history, Id say, yeah.

Asked whether it means he could move this summer, Trafford said: You never know. Whether I move, whether I dont move, I do whats right for me and my career.

Despite his frustration at having to sit on the bench during Citys Premier League campaign, Trafford was in goal as the club won both the Carabao Cup and the FA Cup.

Trafford added: Its obviously been very challenging the past season, but looking back, Ive learned so much, Ive developed so much.

I thought Id had a lot of experiences up to this point in my career, but this was a new experience for me in everything. It was obviously very tough.

Some days were harder than others, but the one thing I wanted to keep doing was keep winning the day and just improving every day, and because I kept doing that I came out of the season having played a part in winning the two trophies.

It was a very challenging season, but I learned a lot for myself and for going forward in my career.

Arsenal transfer latest: Who are they targeting at left wing?

Brighton announce Costinha signing

Brighton have announced the signing of right-back Costinha from Olympiacos.

The defender has signed a five-year deal at the club and Your Site News understands the fee is 8m.

Brighton head coach Fabian Hurzeler said on the signing: "Costinha is a player we have followed closely for some time.

"He has the defensive capabilities, intensity and understanding of what we value and we feel he will be an excellent addition to the squad.

"He is also comfortable in and out of possession of the ball and will add competition at right-back, alongside our existing options. I am delighted he has chosen to continue his development with us in the Premier League.

Como growing confident of keeping Paz despite Madrid buy-back

Como are growing increasingly confident about keeping Nico Paz for another season, according to Sky in Italy.

Real Madrid have a buy-back clause inserted in Pazs  contract at Como, which gives them control over the 21-year-old's future. Paz, currently at the World Cup with Argentina, wants to stay at Como for another season and continue to develop under head coach Cesc Fabregas.

Real Madrid can buy the attacking midfielder for 9m (7.7m) this summer or 10m (8.6m) in a year thanks to the buy-back clause.

Spurs have previously held interest in Paz, who scored 12 goals and provided six assists in Serie A this season.

Wolves appoint Peixoto as new head coach

Wolves have appointed Cesar Peixoto as their new head coach on a two-year deal.

The Portuguese succeeds Rob Edwards following his shock sacking.

Peixoto joins the Championship side from Portuguese club Gil Vicente, whom he guided to a sixth-placed finish last season in the Primeira Liga.

Peixoto told the club's official website: Im proud to be here at this big, historic club in England. Its a big opportunity for me and Im prepared to do everything to put Wolves where it belongs in the Premier League.

We have great players, but I think the team can improve a lot with me and I can improve as a technical head coach. I want to put my identity onto the team, build a strong identity at the club and also help the team to grow by showing my identity and my way of playing.

This is an amazing club, and it is important for me to make Wolves play in a way which reflects the fans. Its a hard-working city with a lot of energy and a lot of passion, and I want them to see a team which plays an offensive game, with good organisation and a team who play for the fans.

I want the supporters to be proud of our players, be proud of the way we play and the way we fight game after game to bring the victory, and to achieve the main aim, which is to put Wolves back in the Premier League.

Rangers and Salzburg complete Rohl deal

Latest from Your Site News' Sahil Jaidka:

Rangers and RB Salzburg have completed a deal for Danny Rohl to join the Austrian Bundesliga outfit.

The Ibrox club are now finalising the deal for Derek McInnes to become their new head coach.

As reported, he has agreed a deal to join on a three-year contract. Rangers and Hearts are now working to finalise that move.

Martin agrees to take over at Leicester

Latest from Your Site News' Mark McAdam:

Russell Martin has agreed a deal to become the new head coach of Leicester.

The 40-year-old will sign a three-year contract at the King Power Stadium and is expected in Leicester later on today.

The Foxes were relegated to Sky Bet League One on April 21.

Martin has been out of work since being sacked by Rangers in October 2025 and has turned down opportunities in the UK and Europe since then.

Munain takes charge of Spanish fourth-tier side

Athletic Bilbao legend Iker Munain has been appointed as the new coach of Salamanca UDS.

The 33-year-old - who played 560 games for the La Liga club - announced his retirement as a player last June.

Two-time Spain international Munain will lead the fourth-tier side for 2026/27.

His first job was at fifth-tier club CD Derio.

Will Anderson join Man City?

Man City and Nottingham Forest are locked in negotiations for Elliot Anderson. The midfielder is currently with England at the World Cup, but there's been plenty of noise around his future nonetheless.

Offers have been made, but nothing has been agreed between the two clubs so far. It could take a British record transfer fee or at least in the region of 125m for City to get the deal done.

Until City reach a figure that makes Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis happy, the wait for Anderson's move to the Etihad will go on.
