Jake Paul may never fight again as he recovers from injuries sustained in last December's defeat to Anthony Joshua

Jake Paul might never box again as he continues to recover from his stoppage loss to Anthony Joshua in December.

Social media star Paul became a professional fighter in 2020 but took a step up in weight, and a huge leap in standard of opposition, when he took on Joshua at the end of last year.

Paul had largely boxed at cruiserweight and in Joshua was meeting a former two-time unified heavyweight champion and an Olympic gold medallist.

Joshua knocked him out in the sixth round. Paul's jaw was broken in two places and he subsequently needed surgery to have two titanium plates fitted and some teeth removed.

Paul has not yet been permitted to spar again, let alone box. He has even speculated that he might not ever fight again.

"I'm getting some new scans in a couple of days, of the jaw, to get an update on the healing process. We'll see what the doctors say," told the Ariel Helwani Show.

"I think I'll be able to get a more accurate timeframe, or can I even fight again? That is definitely in the realm of possibility.

"It does feel a lot better as weeks go by, but I definitely need to get cleared to be able to spar. I'm sort of staying in shape and enjoying some mitt work. I'm always in the gym regardless."

Is his boxing future in doubt?

"Most definitely," Paul said. "I think it just depends on how the bone heals, and then also there's a tooth missing that I'm pretty sure I'm going to have to get an implant of some sort.

"I don't know how much time that's going to add to things. But we just have to see and figure out what the smartest thing is for me."
